With Star Wars: The Last Jedi being released in theaters in a couple of weeks, everyone is trying to get a piece of what is expected to be the highest grossing movie of the year, which is why it isn’t surprising that there is a lot of Star Wars merchandising going on right now.
Motorola has already gotten into the action with the Motorola Droid, Verizon, which had to license the name from Lucasfilm, got in with the R2-D2 headsets, and even Sharp got in on the action with Rogue One.
One company that doesn’t plan to get left behind in this year’s Star Wars craze is OnePlus, which now has a Star Wars edition of the 5T.
The China-based company might seem like an odd choice to get in to Star Wars branding, considering it isn’t a well-known brand. At first, it seemed like it was just a marketing ploy to increase their brand visibility, but the company announced the limited edition phones will only be available in India, starting a day before the movie is released.
In the marketing video released by the company, the phone will have the Star Wars logo on the back, and the side button will be scarlet red. The phone is also expected to have a Star Wars theme inside the device, with a First Order Stormtrooper wallpaper shown in the promotional picture.
As of now, all the details of the Star Wars content that will be on the phone aren’t known, but if you go by past Star Wars themed phones, there will be more exclusive content on the phone.
In the video promo for the phone, Kylo Ren, the son of Han Solo and Princess Leia and the antagonist of the trilogy, is shown picking up his lightsaber, which then dissolves into the phone, implying it can cut through a Jedi just like the lightsaber.
The ad also said the phone is “strong enough to rule the galaxy,’ which will likely get a lot of fans excited about the phone and the movie.
Even those who aren’t Star Wars fans will take advantage of the deal because the 5T is actually a very good budget phone that has received a lot of great reviews.
For those that plan on being in India on December 14, OnePlus will be hosting a launch party for the 5T phone in Mumbai, and tickets will be available starting on December 7. However, there is no information on how much the phone will cost or if it will be available in other countries.
